Do’s and Don’ts of DIY Roof Inspection

Spring has officially sprung! With the start of the new season brings hope of warmer temperatures and more sunshine in the days and weeks ahead.

With the time change recently behind us and an extra hour or two of daylight per day, it’s got us thinking spring cleaning and maintenance. It’s time to give the house a thorough cleaning and airing out and to start making plans for your outdoor DIY lawn and garden projects. And when the weather is right, and it’s a nice sunny day, it’s the perfect opportunity to inspect your roof. Because even if you live in a warm climate that doesn’t experience a cold and icy winter, rain and wind still put plenty of wear and tear on your roof, so it’s important to give it a thorough examination – at least once per year – to ensure there aren’t any minor, or major, issues that need attention.

Before you pull out the ladder and hop on the roof to perform maintenance, make sure you’re doing more good than harm by following our roofing do’s and don’ts tips.

Roofing Do’s
– Perform inspections at least twice a year or as required by the guarantee. The ideal times to perform inspections are at the end of winter and the end of summer, when roofs have gone through the greatest amount of thermal stress.

– Conduct additional inspections immediately after unusual occurrences such as heavy rains, high winds, hail, nearby fires, etc.

Roofing Don’ts
– Don’t perform your own maintenance. Even something as simple as clearing leaves from the gutters can be dangerous.

– Don’t panic if you experience a roof leak. If your roof is regularly inspected and maintained, whatever’s causing the leak is likely a fairly simple fix for a trained roofing professional.

– Don’t hire just anyone to work on your roof without seeing their credentials.

Keeping your roof in a good state of health really boils down to two things – frequent, regular inspections and preventive maintenance. For regular maintenance inspections and roof repair in St. Augustine, contact A Crown Roofing to schedule a preventive maintenance check in the coming weeks.
